10 students inducted into Spanish National Honor Society

Congratulations to our newest Spanish National Honor Society inductees at Deer Lakes!
They are John Alcorn, Kaylin Briney, Nolan Danka, James Gall, Dante Mangieri, Kaylee Pryor, Benjamin Shurina, Jack Snair, Gracie Spagnolo, and Austin Veri.
Our SNHS officers this year are President Andrew O’Brien, Secretary Melanie Brown, Vice Presidents Gavin Windows and Ava Angel, and Treasurers Alexis Hoburg and Grace Moore.
The purpose of this Society is to recognize high achievement in Spanish by students of secondary schools and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. The Deer Lakes Chapter is called Rosalia de Castro.
New members must have an overall 3.0 grade point average (75%) and have maintained a 3.60 grade point average (90%) in Spanish. Spanish teacher and sponsor, Señor Josh Destein, also considers character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, and service and commitment to others in the criteria for selection into the Society. Students must be enrolled in Spanish at the time of induction.
Family members of the new inductees were invited to watch the candle lighting ceremony as the students recited the oath in Spanish, signed their names into the register, received a gold-coated Spanish flag lapel pin, and received their official Spanish National Honor Society certificate.
