Seniors build doghouse, raise $1,200 for West Deer Dog Shelter

National Honor Society led an effort to construct a new doghouse for the West Deer Dog Shelter, and Student Council sponsored the annual Mr. DL competition, in which several seniors raised a combined $1,200 to donate to the shelter.
The Mr. DL competition is not won by votes, but rather who can raise the most in cash donations for an organization chosen by the nominees and Student Council. Shaun Bier led the fundraising effort with Lachlan Herr, Peyton Kushon, and Luca Mangieri also contributing.
National Honor Society President Pierce Hayostek and Vice President Alex Godinez worked together over several months to build the doghouse from scratch, and several additional members stepped up to help paint the doghouse, which was delivered Monday, May 4th.
The doghouse idea originated last school year with former National Honor Society President Scarlett Hadlum, who volunteered at the dog shelter for several years.
