Senior earns 3rd consecutive National History Day title

Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Melanie Brown who earned her third consecutive National History Day Regional Championship!
"It's an honor to win this competition again, especially to place among such high-level projects," Melanie said. "I am so glad to have had the opportunity to compete in this competition over the past six years."
Melanie's project was titled "More Than Just Moms: Labor Revolution, Public Reaction, and Legislative Reform During World War II", and it detailed how working women on the home front and in the military during World War II faced discrimination and influenced women's rights legislation.
Melanie has competed in National History Day since Middle School and has qualified for a sixth consecutive year for the state competition. She earned state championships in 8th and 10th grades and placed second in 9th grade, qualifying for the National Competition each time. She placed 5th at the National Competition in 10th grade, making her one of the most successful students to participate in National History Day.
"National History Day has taught me so many vital research skills, has helped me become a better public speaker, and has given me the confidence to share my ideas with others," Melanie said. "Having the opportunity to boost my resume while travelling, learning, and meeting new people has been one of the greatest joys I've experienced throughout middle school and high school."
