Shayne Parks earns Prime Stage Drama award

Congratulations to Deer Lakes junior Shayne Parks who earned the Prime Stage Drama Award for Best Lighting Design for his work in 'Elephant/Man.'
"Winning this award is an incredible honor," Shayne said. "It reflects not only appreciation, but the countless hours spent in study halls, classrooms, and rehearsals. Seeing my vision come together and be recognized means the world to me, and I’m grateful for everyone who believed in me along the way. This one is for you Mearls (Ms. Earls)."
The Prime Stage Drama Awards recognize excellence in plays by student actors, directors and production crew.
Shayne has been involved in Deer Lakes Drama Department productions throughout Middle School and High School as an actor and goes above and beyond to contribute to each show while also volunteering his time to a variety of concerts in the District. He was also nominated in the category for Best Student Program.
Included in Shayne's award was a $5,000 scholarship to Point Park University’s Conservatory of the Arts.
Each Deer Lakes Drama Department production is uniquely student-driven. Also integral to the production’s lighting success was seventh-grader Vivien Reagle, who will run lights for the upcoming middle school musical.
"No production is successful because of any one person," Shayne said. "It is the combination of many different individuals' visions coming together as a team to be performance ready. Theater is a team that involves many talents on stage and behind the scenes. I am grateful to be part of such a passionate and dedicated team."
