Morgan McCloskey earns SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Championship, scholarship

Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Morgan McCloskey who recently earned several SkillsUSA Pennsylvania awards!
First, Morgan won the SkillsUSA Pin Design competition, which will be used as a trading pin at nationals where students from across the country will collect her Peeps Pin Design. She won the competition by popular public vote.
More recently, Morgan earned the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania championship in the T-Shirt Design competition, which was inspired by Punxsutawney Phil. Morgan embraced a detailed design to earn the state title.
Morgan also earned one of the four Rex Wright Scholarships, which are awarded at the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania conference.
“It’s really rewarding and exciting,” Morgan said. “I felt like I had a good chance with my T-Shirt Design, and I was also really happy to win a scholarship.”
Morgan plans to attend college and pursue a career in graphic design.
“I’ve always enjoyed art, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do after high school until I joined Advertising Design at Beattie,” Morgan said. “I wouldn’t be as good of a designer without Mr. Dumbeck and Mrs. Brown, and she has really pushed me out of my comfort zone, which has meant a lot to me.”
