Lila Hartle earns FCCLA State Championship

Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Lyla Hartle who won a FCCLA State Championship this week!
Lyla earned her state title in the PA Cake Decorating contest. She had 2 hours and 30 minutes to decorate a quarter sheet cake for a fictional 10-year-old boy's birthday. The information given to her was that the boy liked to swim, bike and play softball, and that the cake had to be decorated in blue and green colors. She also had to make a cake board to further demonstrate her decorating skills with boarders, numbers, script writing, roses, etc.
"I honestly didn't expect to win at states, but I hoped I would place," Lyla said. "I saw SkillsUSA competitors who beat me in SkillsUSA, so when they called my name, it made me so happy."
Lila will attend nationals in July in Orlando, FL with Northgate senior Juliana Shane who won a state championship in the Baking and Pastry contest.
