A.W. Beattie Career Center is an extension of nine school districts located in northern Allegheny County. 

 

The school districts are:   Avonworth, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel Area, Hampton Township, Northgate, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland, and Shaler Area

 

The career center offers 20 programs to provide students with an educational experience to be college and career-ready after high school graduation. The programs fulfill elective credit requirements for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Seniors who attend A.W. Beattie may take the NOCTI exam, which awards industry certifications and college credits based on test results.

 

Students who attend A.W. Beattie receive hands-on, real-world experiences. Students in the career center's Carpentry, Building Construction, and HVAC programs design and build houses to local municipality specifications to be sold to the public. Students in the Culinary Arts and Pastry Arts program prepare food for and manage a restaurant that is open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays for breakfast and lunch. Qualified cosmetology students work in a salon open to the public. Qualified seniors throughout the career center have co-op and clinical opportunities to work in local businesses and non-profits.

 

In the last two school years, A.W. Beattie students earned 20 state championships in FCCLA. SkillsUSA and NHBA competitions. One student won the Dean's List Award for his work in FIRST Robotics and competed against 200 in world for a chance to earn a full scholarship to any university. In the last three school years, more than 200 students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society, which requires students to qualify for the National Honor Society at their home school, have a 94 percent grade in their CTC program, have no more than three absences and to have the recommendation of their CTC instructor. The career center is proud of every student's effort to pursue their passion.

 

 

A.W. BEATTIE SCHOOL COUNSELORS


Mrs. Kim Zylinski and Mrs. Sara Goodyear are the A.W. Beattie Career Center school counselors. They work with students on a variety of items such as monitoring academic progress and meeting with students 1:1, implementing study skills, college and career counseling, scholarship applications, as well as assisting students with social and emotional issues.  They also work with all of the district liaison counselors to coordinate a variety of items and activities for the student body.
